The Dublin Diaries – Part 14. | |
01 August 2011 Follow the Scotland U17 squad on their 2011 tour of Ireland. It was an early start for a 7.30am breakfast on Wednesday 27 July 2011. The shuttle buses arrived at 8am and the party set off for Dublin Airport for the 10am flight to Glasgow. The plane arrives in Glasgow after the short flight and South players Gary McKerrachar, Craig Anderson and Finlay MacMillan say their goodbyes and thank the coaches for taking them on the trip. Gary goes off to see if he can find his car in the huge car park whilst it’s a short journey home for Glasgow Mid Argyll players Craig and Finlay. Newtonmore’s Mike Russell passes up the chance to travel North with Russell Jones and Ronald Ross in their car and instead opts for a place on the bus. Perhaps he was concerned that if he mentioned Newtonmore’s win over Kingussie the previous weekend once more, he would find himself “dropped off” in Perth! Danny Delaney also prefers the bus to the car ensuring the bus trip North will be anything but quiet! Darren Hanlan and Conor Sweeney take the free space in Russell’s car. Bus driver Graham Cormack makes good time up the road and after a stop for lunch in Perth, the squad arrives in Newtonmore at 2.45pm. Fort William’s Jack Fraser, Lochaber quartet Danny Delaney, Brennan MacDonald, Conor Sweeney and Stuart Callison are collected for their trips to Spean Bridge and Fort William. It’s the end of the journey for Newtonmore’s Mike Russell and Kingussie’s Darren Hanlan. It’s a quieter bus that then heads for Inverness. Glenurquhart’s Fraser Heath and Skye Camanachd’s Jordan Murchison contest the “who can sleep longest on the bus competition”. They are both woken up to leave the bus in Inverness just before 4pm to complete the rest of the road home. They are joined by Lovat’s Greg Matheson, Lochcarron’s Ben Dalgety, Skye Camanachd’s Martin Bruce, Glengarry’s Ewan Brady and Beauly’s Jack MacDonald.
