The 2010 Marine Harvest Awards will take place in Oban on Sunday 17 July 2011.
The awards will form part of a shinty day including a trial match for the Scotland U21 Shinty / Hurling international.
A number of new awards have also been introduced, including a Player of the Year and Coach of the Year for all 6 shinty leagues. There is also an award for emerging referees.
The winners from the various categories are selected by a Camanachd Association Awards Committee.
The criteria for each award are set out below;
Club of the Year
This award will be made to the Club that is adjudged to have made the most significant contribution to the playing and development of the sport of shinty, in the context of their particular circumstances, based on consideration of the following points:
Promoting shinty as a sport in which all members of the community can be engaged
Ensuring equitable access for everyone to the club and what it offers individuals
Promoting and embedding effective and positive club management and coaching structures
Promoting and developing a broader volunteer base in the life of the club
Establishing positive school/club links and links with other community groups
Developing its fundraising and grant-seeking capabilities
Improving the playing and other facilities of the club
The performance of the club’s teams
The overall conduct of playing and non-players involved with the club as members or supporters, measured against the Disciplinary Rules and Codes of Conduct of the sport
The Club’s engagement with the governing body in terms of reporting, responding and engaging in a regular and constructive manner that demonstrates a commitment to the development of the sport overall, rather than merely in narrow ‘own-club’ terms
Coach of the Year
(This criteria applies to all leagues)
Provided well prepared and enjoyable coaching sessions on a consistent basis
An excellent motivator, personally respected by the players being coached
Able to lead by example and demonstrate evidence of a good standard of behaviour in players
Evidence of undertaking activities to enhance own experience and skills
Through commitment and ability they have made a difference to a club or team over the course of the season
Able to encourage players to develop their skills
Player of the Year
(This criteria applies to all leagues)
A positive attitude towards the benefits of shinty as an activity for people to engage in.
The ability to learn, develop and apply exceptional playing skills
The commitment to co-operation and support and being part of a team that is integral to be a successful participant in a team sport
A positive attitude towards good behaviour and adherence to the sport’s Codes of Conduct in the playing of the shinty.
U21 Player of the Year
This award will be made to the player, eligible to compete in under-21 competition in the 2010 season, who, through his or her performance, behaviour and attitude, has consistently demonstrated:
A positive attitude towards the benefits of shinty as an activity for people to engage in.
The ability to learn, develop and apply exceptional playing skills
The commitment to co-operation and support and being part of a team that is integral to be a successful participant in a team sport
A positive attitude towards good behaviour and adherence to the sport’s Codes of Conduct in the playing of the shinty.
U17 Player of the Year
This award will be made to the player, who has competed in under-17 competition in the 2010 season, who, through his or her performance, behaviour and attitude, has consistently demonstrated:
The ability to learn, develop and apply high quality playing skills
The commitment to co-operation and support and being part of a team that is integral to be a successful participant in a team sport
A positive attitude towards good behaviour and adherence to the sport’s Codes of Conduct in the playing of the shinty.
U14 Player of the Year
This award will be made to the player, who has taken part in under-14 competition in the 2010 season, who, through his or her performance, behaviour and attitude, has consistently demonstrated:
The ability to learn and apply high quality playing skills
The commitment to co-operation and support and being part of a team that is integral to be a successful participant in a team sport
A positive attitude towards good behaviour and adherence to the sport’s Codes of Conduct in the playing of the shinty.
Youth Coach of the Year
Provided well prepared and enjoyable coaching sessions on a consistent basis
An excellent motivator, personally respected by the players being coached
Able to lead by example and demonstrate evidence of a good standard of behaviour in players
Evidence of undertaking activities to enhance own experience and skills
Through commitment and ability they have made a difference to a club or team over the course of the season

William Paterson Salver For Volunteer of the Year
This award is made to:
Thank volunteers
Raise the profile of volunteering
Recognise the work undertaken by volunteer in fostering and developing the sport of shinty
A person who is to receive the Youth & Schools Volunteer Award is not eligible to receive this award in the same year.
The award will be made to the person who has demonstrated, in whatever capacity, their passion, dedication, loyalty and support for the sport of shinty and/or their club and/or those that play the sport, through their voluntary service. Nominations for this award should set out what the person does and why their contribution marks them out ‘special’.
Donella Crawford Award For Youth / Schools Volunteer of the Year
This award is made to:
Thank volunteers
Raise the profile of volunteering
Recognise the work undertaken by volunteer in fostering and developing the sport of shinty amongst children and young people
A person who is to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award is not eligible to receive this award in the same year.
The award will be made to the person who has shown exceptional commitment and ability to promote, encourage, facilitate and support the involvement of children and young people in the sport of shinty. Through the efforts of this person, children and young people have the opportunity to participate in shinty and to do so in a safe, healthy, happy, positive and constructive environment.
Nominations for this award should set out what the person does and why their contribution marks them out ‘special’.
Johnny “Ach” MacRae Award For Referee of the Year
This award will be made, on the basis of nominations received (as well as an analysis of Referee Club Report Form and an analysis of their input to the administrative and disciplinary processes of the Association) to the referee who, over the course of the season, has consistently demonstrated:
An ability to apply the rules of play fairly and equitably
An attitude on the field that illustrates respect for the players and a desire to help them perform to the best of their ability through intelligent and appropriate interpretation and application of the rules of play
A professional attitude in terms of prompt arrival, preparation and presentation at a match venue
A commitment to his or her own self-development through making use of referee assessors, when available, to assess his or her own performance and who has taken opportunities to engage in any other referee development programmes that are made available
A commitment to the good governance of the sport through the timeous and regular provision of regular, clear and comprehensive reports to the Association
Emerging Referee of the Year
This award will be made, on the basis of nominations received (as well as an analysis of 1. Referee Report Forms and 2. Input to the administrative and disciplinary processes of the Association) to an emerging referee who has taken up duties within the last two seasons. This Emerging Referee will have consistently demonstrated.
A commitment to the Referees Code of Conduct
An ability to apply the rules of play fairly and equitably
An attitude on the field that illustrates respect for the players and a desire to help them perform to the best of their ability through intelligent and appropriate interpretation and application of the rules of play
A professional attitude in terms of prompt arrival, preparation and presentation at a match venue
A commitment to his or her own self-development through engaging in the Camanachd Association/Camanachd Referee Association Training and Support structure.
A commitment to the good governance of the sport through the timeous and regular provision of regular, clear and comprehensive reports to the Association
