Caberfeidh 2 Skye Camanachd 2. | |
30 May 2011 Skye Camanachd drew 2-2 with Inverness in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at the Bught Park on Saturday 28 May 2011. Out of last week’s 16 man first team squad go Andrew Banks and Keith MacKenzie who were unavailable whilst Iain MacLellan returned to second team action. Gilleasbuig MacDonald came back into the top team after missing the Inverness game because of work commitments and Danny Morrison made a welcome return from injury Skye started with Shockie MacLennan in defence in place of Andrew Banks and Gilleasbuig MacDonald in midfield in place of MacLennan. The home side took the lead on 25 minutes when a Ruaraidh MacLennan shot from distance took a wicked bounce in front of Skye keeper Michael Nicolson and crept inside the post and into the net. Skye’s response was good though and they levelled 10 minutes later thanks to a well taken goal from captain Somhairle MacDonald. There was a melee at the edge of the Cabers’ D and the ball broke to Somhairle MacDonald, left of goal and he instantly struck a low, hard shot past Donald Mellis into the net to make it 1-1. Caberfeidh regained the lead just 3 minutes into the second half. The Skye defence passed up a couple of opportunities to clear the ball and referee Deek Cameron spotted a Skye defender kick the ball inside the D and he awarded the home side a spot-hit. Scotland U21 international Kevin Bartlett made no mistake from the spot as his strike gave Skye keeper Michael Nicolson no chance. Skye defender Steven Morrison suffered a blow to the hand in the first half and although he tried to play on, he was forced to come off midway through the second half. He was replaced by his brother Danny Morrison who was himself returning from a shoulder injury. This forced Aonghas MacDonald to shuffle his pack. Iain Nicolson replaced Steven Morrison at full back, Kerr Gibb moved from wing centre to take up Nicolson’s wing back role and Iain Morrison dropped from attack to the centre line with Danny Morrison coming on up front. In deed Morrison came close to equalising for Skye with a first time shot with was his first hit of the ball. Skye did draw level on 77 minutes. Somhairle MacDonald crashed a good 35 yard shot goalwards which came off keeper Mellis and Alan Palmer was first to react as he knocked the rebound into the net from close range with his outstretched caman. Indeed Skye might have won it at the death when another Danny Morrison drive grazed the top of the crossbar but the Islanders had to settle for a good point against the team who sit second in the table. Next up for Skye is a Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting with Beauly at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
