2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Second Round Draw. | |
09 May 2011 The meeting between Newtonmore and holders Fort William at the Eilan is the pick of the ties from the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup second round draw which took place at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow on Monday 9 May 2011. The tie of the round will surely be at the Eilan where Fort William, who have won the famous trophy for the last three seasons, play Scottish Hydro Premier Division champions and record Camanachd Cup winners Newtonmore. The sides met last weekend in league action at An Aird and they were only separated by a strike from Newtonmore’s Fraser MacKintosh. They also meet at the Dell this weekend in the Co-operative MacTavish Cup semi finals meaning they will meet at least four times this season. Oban Camanachd will play Kyles Athletic at Mossfield in the second meeting between Premier Division clubs. Oban Camanachd reached the quarter finals last season whilst league leaders Kyles Athletic reached the semi final stage. Lovat travel to play Glenorchy in the only other all-Premier Division clash. The sides recently met at Balgate in the league when four goals from Greg Matheson gave Lovat a 6-0 win against an under-strength Glenorchy side. Taynuilt had hoped for a home draw against one of the top teams following their 4-3 win in the first round against Inverness at the Bught Park last weekend and they got their wish when they were drawn at home to Kingussie. Free-scoring Lochaber face a tricky trip to the Winterton to play Inveraray. The sides met at the same venue at the same stage in the competition last season when a Russell MacKinlay double helped Inveraray to a 7-3 victory. Bute’s reward for beating Skye Camanachd is another home tie; this time against Glasgow Mid Argyll. Both sides were relegated from shinty’s top flight at the end of last season and Bute have made the better start to life in Marine Harvest South Division 1. Glenurquhart make the short journey west to play Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. This has all the makings of a cracking tie and Shiel’s ace marksman Finlay MacRae will be back from his working trip to Guatemala for this one. The Glen have looked good in recent weeks under the guidance of Jim Barr and Drew McNeill. Lochcarron welcome Kilmallie to Battery Park. A Crisdean Finlayson goal helped Lochcarron to a 4-3 win against Kilmallie in a thrilling match when the sides met at the same venue in the league last season. The draw was made by top accordionist Phil Cunningham and Camanachd Association Communications Director and Vice President Donald Stewart. The full draw is; Taynuilt v Kingussie Oban Camanachd v Kyles Athletic Lochcarron v Kilmallie Inveraray v Lochaber Glenorchy v Lovat Bute v Glasgow Mid Argyll Newtonmore v Fort William Kinlochshiel v Glenurquhart The second round ties will be played on Saturday 4 June 2011 whilst the final will be at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 17 September 2011. |
