Lochcarron 4 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
24 April 2011 Skye Camanachd lost 4-1 to Lochcarron in the west coast derby in Marine Harvest North Division 1 at Battery Park on Saturday 23 April 2011. Skye manager Aonghas MacDonald made four changes to his squad. Injured duo Danny Morrison and Iain Morrison were missing as was captain Somhairle MacDonald and Scott Martin. Full back Steven Morrison was also a late call-off from the squad initially named for the game. MacDonald had also hoped that Robbie MacDougall might be available but this proved not to be the case. The list of unavailable Skye players has extended to nine absentees. Those missing were Somhairle MacDonald, Steven Morison, Jamie MacDonald, Kerr Gibb, Robbie MacDougall, AB Connor, Danny Morrison, Iain Morrison and Kenny Campbell who is currently in Australia. Andrew Banks returned in defence whilst Davis Grant and Keith MacKenzie started on the bench. Darryl Macintosh was moved from midfield to full forward. Shockie MacLennan captained the side as he made his first appearance of the season following injury. Lochcarron manager Murdo John Fraser was missing Ben Dalgety and Dickie MacKenzie. Lochcarron struck first and they took the lead after 9 minutes. Crisdean Finlayson reacted first to a ball into the danger area and he managed to get ahead of his marker to first time the ball into the net. Skye drew level on 25 minutes when referee Graeme MacMillan spotted a kick inside the D and pointed to the penalty spot. Alan Palmer stepped up and struck the ball low past Lochcarron keeper Kenny Ross to make it one each. Skye were given another chance from the penalty spot when a Lochcarron defender kicked the ball in the D following a Jordan Murchison cross. This time Palmer hit his penalty well enough but this effort when straight at Kenny Ross and the chance was gone. When Shockie MacLennan limped off, Skye must have feared that he had suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury which kept him out of action in recent weeks. However Skye merely took advantage of the rolling substitutes rule to allow MacLennan to adjust the strapping on his ankle. Lochcarron introduced Gregor Cushnie 5 minutes from the break. Cushnie had played for the Lochcarron second team in their 3-1 defeat at Beauly where he scored a goal and he replaced Adam Preston in attack. He was to have a telling contribution before the end of the game. Alan Palmer also hit the frame of the goal during the first half and Jordan Murchison was unable to convert another opportunity so the sides went into the break all square. Lochcarron started the second half strongly and the took the lead a couple of minutes into the second half when Skye keeper Michael Nicolson made a save with his hand from a lob into the area and Crisdean Finlayson took advantage of hesitation in the Skye back line to nip in to score his second. Skye introduced Stewart Grant in place of Shaun Hedley who was winded in one challenge but Grant then had to leave the field with a cut above the eye after being caught by Andrew Slaughter’s caman. David Grant also joined the Skye attack in place of Jordan Murchison. However it was Lochcarron who went 3-1 up through Gregor Cushnie as he pounced on a rebound on 78 minutes and he made it 4-1 just four minutes later with a great individual effort. The closest Skye came in the second half was a Jordan Murchison effort which came off the post. The result leaves Skye at the bottom of the table with no points from three games played and next week’s home match against Inverness comes into the “must win” category.
