WCA Schools League Tournament Cancelled. | |
30 March 2011 The WCA Schools League tournament in Kingussie on Friday 1 April 2011 has been cancelled. The cancellation means that the Portree High School girls will unfortunately be unable to continue their good performances in the WCA Schools League as only one team other than Portree and hosts Kingussie confirmed participation. The WCA tournament had been scheduled since the beginning of the school session but there has been an unfortunate clash with the Donella Crawford Sixes at Ardnamurchan High School which is run under the auspices of the School's Camanachd Association. Whether this competition has had an influence on some teams’ participation remains to be seen. This cancellation means that there are only two rounds of the league to play before the scheduled Scottish Schools Cup Final day at Ballachulish on 11 June 2011 when the top three teams from North and South compete for the overall winners’ title. However with a busy exam diet in May and the late holiday this year, perhaps only one round at Lochaber will be played. This will be a disappointment for the Portree squad which has finished a close second to Lochaber in both tournaments so far. The Portree girls were looking for some match practice before next Thursday's clash for the Sgathach Quaich in the annual Sorley MacLean Quaich match between Portree and Plockton High Schools. |
