Double Success For Banavie In Gilmour Sports National First Shinty Festivals. | |
27 February 2011 Banavie were double competition winners at the Gilmour Sports First Shinty Festival in Fort William on Saturday 26 February 2011. The annual festival saw 12 teams compete in the Primary 5 & Under category including reigning champions Kingussie. A total 13 teams took part in the Primary 7 & Under event. The Primary 5 & Under competition took place at the Lochaber High School and Victor Smith’s Banavie side triumphed after they beat Glenurquhart 4-2 to win the tournament. The Glen beat Portree 3-2 in the semi finals to win through to the final whilst Banavie saw off Glasgow Gaels to win the other semi final. Portree had some consolation when they beat Glasgow Gaels to finish third. The Primary 7 & Under tournament took place at the Nevis Centre, Fort William. North End performed really well and they were unfortunate to lose to eventual winners Banavie in the semi finals when only a golden goal separated the sides after they had drawn 3-3. St Columba’s, who edged out Portree on goal difference to reach the last four, beat Tomnacross 4-3 in the other semi final. Banavie won the tournament with a 5-1 victory over St Columba’s to clinch their second success of the day. North End beat Tomnacross 1-0 to finish in third place.
