Lewis Camanachd Delighted With League Membership. | |
08 February 2011 Lewis Camanachd are “delighted” with the Camanachd Association’s decision to grant them entry to Marine Harvest North Division 3 for the 2011 shinty season. A club spokesman said, "We are absolutely overjoyed at the decision. It has been a long road but history has been made. Now that we are in the league, we will go the extra mile to prove we are worthy of our place and ensure that shinty remains a fixture in the Western Isles for many years to come. The West is Awake!" The club also acknowledged the support they received from the shinty world as they made their case for league membership. “We are overwhelmed with the support we have received from across the shinty World. Teams like Ardnamurchan and Aberdeen, who will face the biggest challenge coming to play us have actually been the most supportive. We are greatly indebted to Lochcarron for their support as well and we have had messages from players and officials from clubs across the nation. We look forward to welcoming them all to Lewis." The Camanachd Association granted Lewis Camanachd permission to join the Marine Harvest North Division 3 at a board meeting last week. However they have said that they will review the position at the end of the season. Lewis Camanachd opens their 2011 shinty programme against Beauly at Braeview Park on Saturday 5 March 2011. They will have a run of away matches early in the season as their home pitch will not be available until a later date. The club have put together a squad of around 25 players and have signed Donald Lamont from Aberdeen University. |
