Mànran Round Off Successful Week. | |
25 January 2011 Modern Gaelic band Mànran, who feature Fort William and Scotland shinty star Gary Innes, might not have become the first band of the 21st century to take a Gaelic song into the official UK top 40 but they have achieved other chart successes. Their new single “Latha Math” or “Good Day” describes an idyllic and peaceful day in the island of Lewis. It was released on Monday 17 January 2011 and finished the week at number 61 in the UK Charts. However the single also finished in the lofty position of Number 6 in both the Scottish and Indie Charts which is a fantastic achievement. Mànran also topped the singer / songwriter charts as the song was written by their singer Norrie MacIver. Mànran are regarded by many as the hottest new band on the Scottish music scene, combining driving accordion, fiddle, Highland pipes, Uillean pipes and flute with powerful songs in English and Gaelic, all underpinned by rocking drums and bass. |
