Memory Lane – Season 1989 / 90 – Part 27 | |
10 December 2010 North Division 3 Skye Camanachd 4 Lovat 3 The poor winter weather meant this was only the Skye Camanachd reserve’s third game in 3 months. The conditions at the King George V Park were no better than poor which contributed greatly to this being a scrappy match. With all this in mind, the Skye players will be satisfied to win the game and take both points, especially as they were 2-0 down at one point and trailed 2-1 at the break. The first half hour belonged entirely to Lovat and they built up a 2-0 advantage through goals from MacPherson and MacKenzie. Skye eventually settled and full forward Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Portree) showed great persistence to scramble the ball over a very muddy goal line to make it 2-1. James “Chips” Munro went close to levelling the game when his shot went just past the post. Skye’s Ally Grant also narrowly failed to tie the game just moments before the break. However Skye did square the match on 52 minutes when Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Portree) scored his second goal of the day. Lovat regained the lead just 3 minutes later when the Skye defence hesitated and MacLeod gleefully netted to put the visitors 3-2 up. Skye had a great chance to square the game on 72 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. There didn’t seem to be a anyone within the Skye ranks willing to step forward so it was left to a reluctant Ally Grant to take the spot hit. Grant seemed to rush his strike and the ball went harmlessly wide of goal. However Ally Grant made amends moments later when he made it 3-3 with a well taken strike from the left. Skye now looked the stronger side and an infringement inside the D meant they were awarded a second penalty. This time Charlie Devlin took responsibility. However he got under the ball and his effort sailed over the bar. Skye went ahead on 78 minutes thanks to a fabulous strike from Donald “Donji” MacLeod and they held onto their lead for the remainder of the game. |
