Archie Robertson has been named Camanachd Association President-elect.
Archie Robertson is the Camanachd Association Director without Portfolio and has been a Board Member since 2007. He defeated Donald Stewart, the current Vice President and Director of Communications, in a ballot of voting members.
Archie Robertson played shinty for Lovat but is perhaps best known for his time at Glasgow Mid Argyll where he served as player and first team manager as well as on several committee posts. He has also represented Scotland at international level against Ireland.
He still retains his home on Skye and has been known to represent South Skye in the past in the annual Ewen Morrison Memorial Cup tournament which is played between the various localities on the Island.
Archie Robertson is also a Director of the Glasgow Celtic Society and is a well known face at shinty grounds throughout Scotland.
Archie Robertson received 21 of the 41 available votes. Donald Stewart received 11 votes and there were 9 abstentions.
Current President Duncan Cameron finishes his term of office at the Camanachd Association Annual General Meeting on Friday 29 April 2011. The post of President-elect is intended to facilitate a smooth transition from one President to another. Over the coming months Mr Robertson will shadow the current President in the performance of his duties and benefit from the President’s guidance and advice regarding the role.
The President-elect will then be presented at the 2011 Annual General Meeting for confirmation as President for a term of three years.
