22 November 2010 Skye Camanachd have invited the very best shinty teams to compete for the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup since they first played Newtonmore in 1972. The match is played in honour of former Skye Camanachd player Thomas Ferguson who died in a road accident in 1971. Thomas Ferguson was a great shinty player and he was a fisherman who owned his own boat which sailed out of Portree. He was only 21 when he died. His death is one of a number of tragic accidental deaths which have hit Skye Camanachd in recent years. Others include, Angus Murchison, John Matheson, Iain Nicolson, George Michie and Jock MacFarlane. The trophy has been played for 38 times with Skye Camanachd coming out on top in 22 occasions.
