Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil Looks For Shinty / Hurling Development. | |
17 November 2010 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil would like to see the Camanachd Association and the GAA continue their development of the Shinty / Hurling International Series. McNeil believes that measures can be put in place which will benefit shinty and take the cross-codes game to a new level. He said “I do feel that the series can benefit shinty in that if we are to compete with the hurlers, we need an elite panel for any player who wishes to improve outwith their own particular club’s training.” This is something that McNeil sees developing over the years, “In time, clubs will then hopefully create individual training programmes for their players and the panel system would be negated.” McNeil believes the GAA are also positive about the future of the event. “The GAA are keen to continue the 2 game series and from the discussions I’ve had, they are considering a hurley competition in Ireland where no hand use will be allowed. Therefore it seems that they have noticed and appreciated our stick skills and this is an area of their game that they want to develop.” “Another area they may put more emphasis on is scoring goals and I think that showed in this series. The GAA are always looking to improve their sport as a spectacle and I find myself wondering how we make our sport more appealing but that’s a debate for another day! |
