2010 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final………….1 Day to Go. | |
17 September 2010 The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Kingussie and Fort William takes place at the Bught Park Inverness on Saturday 18 September 2010. Kingussie will be without Iain Borthwick who has had a terrible run with injuries this season. Lee Bain will return to their line-up after missing the win over Lovat last weekend as he was working. However manager Stevie Borthwick has serious concerns about Paul Gow who has a rib injury, Ally MacLeod who has a hamstring problem and Ricky Grant who has an ankle knock. The injuries will likely free up a starting place for club captain Barry Dallas but the absence of all 3 players would be a serious blow to the King’s chances. Fort William are boosted by Bryan Simpson’s inclusion only 5 weeks after suffering a broken wrist. However the final has come too soon for Drew Ferguson who has a broken ankle. Manager Peter MacIntyre will give great though to how he sets his team out and how he will deal with the threat posed by Ronal Ross. The talented Duncan Rodger has been battling back to fitness after a serious knee injury and he could be given the task of picking up Ross if he is deemed fit enough. Alternatively the role could be given to former Oban Camanachd player Liam MacIntyre who has all the skill but a questionable temperament. MacIntyre may even have a more radical plan up his sleeve and how Fort William deal with the threat of Ross will be one of the most fascinating aspects of the final. Kingussie go into the match with the experienced Ronald Ross looking for his twelfth winners’ medal but it will be a Camanachd Cup Final debut for young cousins Ryan and Thomas Borthwick and former Strathglass player Lee Bain. Fort William will lean on the experience of captain Niall MacPhee, Gary Innes and James Clark who are all looking to play in their eighth consecutive Camanachd Cup Final. However it will be a debut Camanachd Cup Final outing for young keeper Paul MacKay who features in the Scotland U21 training squad. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness throws up at 2.20pm. Admission for a fantastic day’s shinty is £10 and £5 for concessions. The final will also be shown live on BBC2 Scotland where coverage starts at 2pm. Iain Anderson and Hugh Dan MacLennan are the match commentators. |
