2010 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final………….5 Days to Go. | |
13 September 2010 The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Kingussie and Fort William takes place at the Bught Park Inverness on Saturday 18 September 2010. Both these sides have been major participants in recent Camanachd Cup Finals. Fort William have won shinty’s premier event for the last 3 consecutive seasons. They are also playing in their 8th consecutive final which equals the efforts of Newtonmore between 1905 and 1912 and again between 1975 and 1982. However Kingussie hold the record of 9 consecutive finals between 1995 and 2003. Indeed you have to go back to 1990 when Skye Camanachd beat Newtonmore 4-1 (I knew I’d find an excuse to mention it) to find a final which didn’t feature either of these sides. Fort William captain Niall MacPhee has appeared in all 8 of his side’s finals and his younger brother Aaron MacPhee will captain the Fort William U14 side when they play Kinlochshiel U14 in the MacMaster Cup Final at the same venue earlier in the day. Kingussie hit-man Ronald Ross is out to get his hands on his twelfth winners medal and he was a winning captain in 1998. He is on the trail of Ally Dallas who has a record haul of 15 winners medals whilst Davie Borthwick is one behind with 14 winners gongs. The final was last played at the Bught Park, Inverness in 2007 when Fort William beat Inveraray 3-1. However Kingussie won the famous trophy in the very first final which took place in the Highland Capital in 1896 when they beat Glasgow Cowal. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness throws up at 2.20pm. Admission for a fantastic day’s shinty is £10 and £5 for concessions. The final will also be shown live on BBC2 Scotland where coverage starts at 2pm. Iain Anderson and Hugh Dan MacLennan are the match commentators. |
