24 July 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 24 July 2010 are……….. Artemis Macaulay Cup The 2010 Artemis Macaulay Cup Final will be between Kingussie and Inveraray. The Kings reached the final with a 3-0 win over Fort William at the Bught. Ronald Ross put them ahead just before the break and he added another 10 minutes into the second half. Fort William’s cause wasn’t helped when Steven Stewart was sent off and Paul Gow added a third Kings goal 3 minutes from the end. Inveraray thumped Bute 9-0 at Mossfield. Neil Andrew scored 4, Grant Griffin bagged a double and Garry MacPherson, Ewan MacMurdo and Lewis MacNicol got the others. Scottish Hydro Premier Division League leaders Newtonmore came back from Tighnabruaich with what could prove to be an important point following a 2-2 draw with Kyles Athletic. Colin MacColl and Thomas Whyte both put Kyles ahead only for David Cheyne to equalise each time. Glenurquhart and Lovat both eased their relegation fears with wins the bottom two; Oban Camanachd and Glasgow Mid Argyll. First half goals from Lewis MacLennan, Eddie Tembo, Neale Reid and John Barr put the Glen on the way to a 5-2 win over Oban Camanachd. Gary Lord was sent off for an Oban side who have an unenviable disciplinary record this season. Glasgow Mid Argyll put up a great fight before going down 6-4 to Lovat at Yoker. Jamie Matheson scored a hat-trick for the visitors whilst Greg Matheson bagged a double. James MacPherson scored Lovat’s other goal. Marine Harvest North Division 1 League leaders Kinlochshiel maintained their good run as Finlay MacRae scored a hat-trick in their 4-3 win over Caberfeidh A Ben Delaney double – one from the penalty spot – helped Lochaber to a 4-0 win over Inverness. The result of the day probably belonged to Lochcarron who beat a much fancied Kilmallie side 4-3 at Battery Park. Kilmallie lead 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Michael Rodgers and Martin Stewart. However second half strikes from Gregor Cushnie, Mark Sproule, Alan MacKenzie and Crisdean Finlayson put Lochcarron 4-2 up before Stewart netted a last minute penalty. Skye Camanachd got back on the winning way with a 2-0 triumph over second place Beauly at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Gilleasbuig MacDonald gave Skye the lead 2 minutes before the interval and a Martin Bruce strike 5 minutes from time gave the Islanders the points. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Glenorchy clinched the Marine Harvest South Division 1 title and an immediate return to shinty’s top flight with a 5-0 triumph over second place Oban Celtic. Kieran MacKay and Alex MacPherson scored doubles with Grant MacPherson getting the other. The Inveraray second string secured their first league win of the season when they beat neighbours Kilmory 4-2. However they were aided by the inclusion of first team player Russell MacKinlay who scored a hat-trick. Craig MacDougall scored a goal in each half as Lochside Rovers beat Taynuilt 2-0. Marine Harvest North Division 2 With table toppers Glengarry not in action, second place Glenurquhart took the chance to close the gap at the top to just 2 points with a 3-1 win over Newtonmore at the Eilan. First half goals from Kelvin MacKenzie and Daniel MacIntosh put the Glen 2-0 up and Ewan Brady added a third on 65 minutes. David Wilde pulled a goal back for ‘More 5 minutes later. A goal in each half from Mark Graham and Mark Kelly cancelled out a Jordan Murchison strike to give Kilmallie a 2-1 win over Skye Camanachd at Canal Parks. Late strikes from Duncan Davidson and Jimmy MacKenzie gave Lovat a 3-1 derby win over Beauly at Braeview Park. A Steven Dormer double helped Kingussie to a 3-1 win over Fort William in the Friday night match at the Dell. Marine Harvest South Division 2 A Doug Newsom strike after just 9 minutes set Aberdour on their way to a 4-0 win over Bute. Katie Smith scored their final goal after 75 minutes. Tayforth beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 4-2 in Perth and leap-frog their rivals into second place. Stuart Ferrier was amongst their scorers. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochaber closed the points on leaders Aberdeen University with a 5-2 win at Spean Bridge. Keith Neville scored twice in the first 3 minutes whilst Alan Knox grabbed a hat-trick. The Students still have a 4 point lead although Lochaber have 3 games in hand. Boleskine and Lochbroom shared the points after a 3-3 draw at Farr. Aaron Matheson scored twice for the visitors. Caberfeidh were awarded the points when Lochcarron were unable to raise a team for their match at Castle Leod. |
