MacDonald Heartened By Effort and Display. | |
12 July 2010 Skye Camanachd first team manager Aonghas MacDonald was heartened by the effort and display from his team in their Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup quarter final defeat to Inveraray at the Winterton on Saturday 10 July 2010. “We played very well during the first half and we matched Inveraray for over an hour.” said MacDonald after the tie. “The game was end to end during that time and there was really nothing in it. I thought we battled hard, especially in defence, but Inveraray are playing at a different level to us and we are not used to that. Their fitness, and especially their sharpness, told in the end and they are a good side with good first touches but I don’t think anyone could say that the score reflected our contribution to the game.” The Skye support and players were unhappy with some of the refereeing decisions made during the match but MacDonald refused to blame that for the defeat. “We were very disappointed with the decisions which went against us. However refereeing is a difficult job and the referee was doing his best.” There is much for the Islanders to aim for though. MacDonald said, “The average age of our side was just 23 and we want to be playing at this level every week so that we can improve. If we play like we played today in the league then we will finish near the top. We just need to find a level of consistency because we have lacked that so far this season.” Skye must now focus on the league with Inverness at the Bught Park awaiting the side on Saturday 17 July 2010. |
