Skye Camanachd A Win Lewis Sixes Craig Morrison Memorial Cup. | |
05 July 2010 Skye Camanachd A won the Lewis Sixes Craig Morrison Memorial Cup in Stornoway on Saturday 3 July 2010. The competition at Stornoway Primary School was in memory of Lewis Camanachd player Craig Morrison who died following a tragic accident 12 months ago. The Skye A side opened the day with a 1-1 draw with hosts Lewis Camanachd A. It took a late Alan Palmer goal to save Skye’s blushes. Skye A also drew with Skye B but beat Lochcarron 2-0, Stromeferry (no ferry) 1-0 and Lewis B 7-0. They finished on 13 points which clinched a place in the final. The Skye B side, captained by 15 year old Ian “Duchan” MacPherson, included all U17 players with the exception of Ally MacDonald who is just too old for this age group. They had goalless draws with Lochcarron and Skye A before beating Lewis A 1-0 and Lewis B 5-1. The Skye players knew that a draw in their final match against Stromeferry (no ferry) would see them through to the final but they lost 1-0 to a late strike and so finished on 11 points. Jordan Murchison scored 4 of the Skye B sides 6 goals. This allowed Lochcarron who had 12 points to finish second and they took on Group leaders Skye A in the final. Skye A won the final 2-0 thanks to a double from captain Allan MacKinnon who scored 6 goals throughout the day. Lewis A full centre Scott Murray was named player of the tournament which was fitting as he and Craig Morrison were best friends. The 6 team tournament was a big success and plans are already under-way for next year’s event.
