The Saturday Shinty Snapshot – 3 July 2010! | |
04 July 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 3 July 2010 are……….. Marine Harvest Premier Sixes Kingussie won the 2010 Marine Harvest Premier Sixes with a 2-1 victory against old foes Newtonmore in the final at An Aird. A Norman Campbell clearance from inside his own half took a deflection off Rory Fraser’s stick and seemed to deceive Andrew Borthwick as it bobbled into the net to give ‘More the lead. Thomas Borthwick equalised with a good backhand shot before crashing the winner into the roof of the net from a Ryan Borthwick corner. The North were 3-0 winners over the South in the women’s match whilst Newtonmore beat Beauly 1-0 in the Primary Shinty Schools World Cup Final. Balliemore Cup Final Lochaber will play Kinlochshiel in the Balliemore Cup Final on Saturday 17 July 2010. Lochaber came from 2 goals down to beat Kilmallie at Spean Bridge in an exciting evening throw up. Liam MacDonald fired Kilmallie into the lead after 14 minutes and a Michael Rodgers goal gave the visitors a 2-0 lead on 25 minutes. However Lochaber reduced the deficit when Ben Delaney shot past Kevin Toy to make it 2-1 just 3 minutes before the break. The tie was all square just 7 minutes into the second half when Scott Paterson scored. Kilmallie almost regained the lead on 64 minutes when Michael Rodgers set up Peter MacIntyre but his rasping drive came back of the crossbar. Just 2 minutes later Lochaber were awarded a penalty by the goal judge for a kick inside the D. Ben Delaney confidently dispatched the spot hit into the back of the net to score this third penalty in 2 games and net what was to prove to be the winning goal. Lewis Sixes Craig Morrison Memorial Shield Skye Camanachd A won the Lewis Sixes Craig Morrison Memorial Shield in Stornoway with a 2 goal win over Lochcarron in the final. Captain Allan MacKinnon led by example, scoring both his side’s goals in this 6 team event. Inverness Sixes Jubilee Shield Kinlochshiel A retained the Inverness Sixes Jubilee Shield with a 2-0 win over Caberfeidh in the final. Keith MacRae was named player of the tournament for the second successive year. A total of 18 teams took part in this tournament at the Bught Park, Inverness. |
