Beauly U17 Win 2010 Strathdearn Sixes. | |
29 June 2010 Beauly U17 won the Strathdearn Sixes at the Bught Park, Inverness on Monday 28 June 2010. The competing teams were split into 2 sections with the top 2 sides qualifying for the semi finals. Skye Camanachd U17 were initially drawn in the first section with Lovat, Kilmallie, Strathglass and Kinlochbervie. Section 2 contained Lochaber, Beauly, Caberfeidh, Kingussie and Newtonmore but as both Badenoch sides were late call-offs, Skye were switched to the second, tougher, section as the last team drawn out. The competition started at 6pm but the distance Skye had to travel meant that they were always going to be late arrivals. This meant the Islanders had to play their 3 league matches in a row, without a break. Skye started well against Lochaber before going down to 2 late goals. Skye beat a young Caberfeidh side 4-0 with Ally MacLeod getting a hat-trick and Paul MacKinnon scoring the other. Skye then faced Beauly with second place in the section at stake as both sides were level on points and goals scored. Beauly scored with their only real shot on target and although Skye tried to level the game, Beauly held on. The game was stopped for a time after Skye’s Ally MacLeod took an accidental blow to the head. After receiving some first aid from Beauly’s Innes Simpson, MacLeod headed for Raigmore Hospital to receive a precautionary x-ray and stitches to the wound. He was allowed to travel home later in the evening. Skye’s final opponents were Strathglass. Both sides had finished in third place in their respective sections and Skye ran out 4-0 winners. Paul MacKinnon opened the scoring and Jordan Murchison added a double. Skye’s fourth was slotted home by Shaun Hedley following a free hit. Defender Hedley getting on the score sheet was perhaps the biggest surprise of the night! Beauly beat Lovat 4-1 in the first semi final with Jack MacDonald getting a hat-trick. Lochaber were 3-0 winners in the other semi final. The final was an evenly contested affair and it took a brilliant individual goal from Jack MacDonald to win the trophy for Beauly. Beauly captain Scott MacLeod was presented with the trophy. Beauly’s Jack MacDonald was deservedly named Player of the Tournament. |
