The home side took the lead in this 12 noon throw up in bizarre circumstances when the Glen’s John Barr put the ball past his own keeper Stuart MacKintosh. ‘More made it 2-0 on 65 minutes through Glen MacKintosh but a Davie MacLennan strike on 72 minutes reduced their advantage. Newtonmore held on to take the points despite having Paul MacArthur sent off by referee Deek Cameron with 5 minutes remaining. Lovat and second place Fort William renewed acquaintances at Balgate as they met for the second consecutive Saturday. The Fort were 6-0 winners against an under-strength Lovat last week, having raced into a 4-0 lead after just 16 minutes. Fort William were still without injured defenders John MacLeod and Duncan Rodgers but forward James Clark returned to the side. Lovat had several players back after their squad was depleted last weekend because of the RockNess Music Festival. This match had a 4pm throw up and Fort William went ahead on 12 minutes through Gordie MacKinnon. James Clark made it 2-0 just a couple of minutes later and Fort William took this lead into the break. Garry Innes made it 3-0 on 68 minutes and worse was to follow for Lovat 2 minutes later when they had forward Fraser Gallagher sent off. Innes added a second 10 minutes from time to seal a 4-0 win which keeps the Fort in second place. . Glasgow Mid Argyll blew the relegation battle wide open when they beat Bute 3-1 at the Meadows, Rothesay. Bute were 4-0 winners when the sides met at Yoker on the opening day of the season but the Glasgow men showed that their recent win over Glenurquhart was no fluke. Andy Mathie got the all important goal at Yoker that day and he was the Mid Argyll hero once again with a hat-trick in this one. He netted 2 quick-fire goals on 39 and 41 minutes to put his side 2-0 up at the break. Mathie added a third on 60 minutes before Hector Whitelaw pulled a goal back for Bute on 69 minutes. This victory for Glasgow Mid Argyll draws them closer to Oban Camanachd, Glenurquhart and Lovat at the bottom of the table. There was another all south meeting at Mossfield where second bottom Inveraray put paid to their recent poor away league form when they beat Oban Camanachd 4-0 at Mossfield. The sides recently met at the same venue in the semi final of the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup with Inveraray running out narrow 3-2 winners thanks to an extra time goal from Grant Griffin but this victory was more comfortable. The prolific Russell MacKinlay scored twice on a rare away appearance and Neil Andrews and Gary MacPherson got the others. Inveraray now move into third place in the table. Caberfeidh had the chance to close the gap on Marine Harvest North Division 1 leaders Kinlochshiel when they travelled to Cannich to play bottom club Strathglass. This match had a 5pm throw up and the sides had to settle for a share of the points following a 1-1 draw. Lochcarron took the lead in the Friday night game against Beauly at Braeview Park on 25 minutes with a great Mark Sproule strike. However a Jack MacDonald goal 5 minutes from half time ensured the sides went in to the break all square. There was no further scoring in the second half so the points were shared. This was a really close encounter between two well matched teams and the points could have gone either way. The point takes Beauly into second place in the table. Marine Harvest South Division 1 leaders Glenorchy are moving ever closer to a return to shinty’s top flight. They have a perfect league record of 9 wins out of 9 but had to fight all the way against Ballachulish at Jubilee Park. A goal from James Livingston after 25 minutes and a John Surtain strike 10 minutes later looked to have given Glenorchy a comfortable 2-0 half time lead. However a Donald MacPhee goal on 58 minutes reduced the deficit and MacPhee netted his second on 70 minutes to level the game. Glenorchy preserved their perfect record when John McNulty drove into the back of the net with just 5 minutes remaining. There were goals galore in the second string Oban derby when second place Oban Celtic met third place Lochside Rovers. Lochside were convincing 3-0 winners when the sides met in March but they had the tables turned on them in this one. David Duffy got the home side off to a great start when he scored after just 3 minutes but Lochside’s Robert Alexander made it one each just 4 minutes later. Referee Ronnie Campbell awarded Celtic a penalty after 15 minutes and David Hill stepped forward to put his side ahead once again. However Lochside equalised for a second time just 2 minutes later through Daniel Cameron. Duffy scored his second goal on 24 minutes and this gave Celtic a 3-2 lead at the break. Celtic made it 4-2 on 49 minutes though Alan Duffy and Kenny Wotherspoon got his name on the score sheet to make it 5-2 on 70 minutes. David Devine reduced the deficit on 79 minutes but Alan Duffy added his second 2 minutes from time for a 6-3 victory. The game ended on a sour note when Celtic’s Lee Askew and Rovers’ James MacMillan were both sent off by referee Campbell in the final minute. The match between fourth place Kilmory and fifth place Taynuilt was postponed because of a bereavement. Marine Harvest North Division 2 front-runners Glengarry beat Lovat 2-1 in the 6.30pm throw up at Balgate to extend their lead at the top of the table. Glengarry have been a revelation this season and their tough style makes it difficult for opponents. Daniel MacLennan is a quality full back whilst Steven Cameron is their main source of creativity. Bottom club Beauly were shock winners against Fort William at An Aird. Ryan Campbell and Bryan Simpson scored for the home side but goals from Simon Holmes, David MacLean and first team manager Steven MacLean lifted Beauly off the bottom of the table. Kinlochshiel traveled to the Eilan to play Newtonmore. Newtonmore were 4-0 winners when the sides met at Kirkton at the end of March and they came out 7-0 victors in this one. David Wilde put Newtonmore ahead after 32 minutes and Chris Sellar added a second on 39 minutes. An Ackie MacRae strike on 42 minutes gave Newtonmore a 3-0 lead at the break. Sellar scored his second a minute into the second half and he completed his hat-trick on 53 minutes. Another Chris Sellar goal made it 6-0 on 65 minutes and Drew MacDonald completed the scoring 10 minutes from time. There Marine Harvest South Division 2 match between second bottom Tayforth and second top Glasgow Mid Argyll in Perth did not go ahead as Tayforth were unable to raise a team. Strachur and Aberdour met at Home Farm with Strachur leading their opponents by a point in the table although Aberdour have 4 games in hand. The point difference remains the same after the sides drew 1-1. Ross Nicol put Aberdour ahead on 22 minutes but Reece Campbell squared the game 8 minutes later. Marine Harvest North Division 3 pace-setters Aberdeen University took the chance to increase their lead at the top of the table with second place Lochaber idle. The Students traveled to Cannich where they beat Strathglass 7-3 with two former Skye Camanachd players prominent on their score sheet. Raymond Fraser put Strathglass ahead after 9 minute’s but a goal former Skye player Jamie Beaton on 23 minutes drew the sides’ level. Fraser scored again just a minute later to restore the home side’s lead but another former Skye Camanachd player, Kenny MacLeod, made it 2-2 on 35 minutes. Scott Moffat put Aberdeen ahead for the first time in the game just a minute later and MacLeod added his second on 39 minutes to put daylight between the teams at the break. Jamie Beaton scored his second on 53 minutes to make it 5-2 and MacLeod scored two more on 65 and 70 minutes to take his personal tally to 4 goals. Stuart Harvey pulled a goal back for Strathglass on 73 minutes but the visitors ran out 7-3 winners. Lochcarron went down 3-0 to Caberfeidh at Battery Park. The visiting goals were scored by Alan Ross, Gary MacLennan and Iain MacDonald. This match was refereed by former Camanachd Association Youth Director Graeme MacMillan who is a welcome addition to the refereeing fraternity. Lochaber retained the MacTavish Juvenile Cup with a 4-2 win over Glenurquhart at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 19 June 2010. Connor Sweeney put the holders ahead with a 14 minute strike and Scott Knox ensured a 2-0 interval lead with a goal on 20 minutes.
