15 June 2010 Kilmallie have had an impressive run to the 2010 Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final. Kilmallie started the tournament on 3 April 2010 against Strathglass at Cannich. Kilmallie were in good form at the time and they ran out 5-1 winners. Peter MacIntyre scored a hat-trick and Scottish international John Stewart bagged a double. Garry Reid scored a consolation goal for the home side. The second round on 1 May 2010 gave Kilmallie a local derby against Lochaber at Canal Parks. A close battle was anticipated and few expected the home side to run away with a 5-0 victory. John Stewart gave Kilmallie the lead after 13 minutes and Liam MacDonald added a second just 2 minutes later. John Stewart scored again 3 minutes before the break to give the home side a 3-0 interval lead. Liam MacDonald netted his second a minute into the second half and he went on to complete his hat-trick a minute from the end. Kilmallie’s Michael Rodger and Lochaber’s Danny Delaney were both sent off by referee Charles Young after they got involved in a scuffle. There was a thrilling local derby at An Aird on 29 May 2010 where Fort William met Kilmallie in the semi final of the MacTavish Cup. The Fort were still be without James Clark whilst Kilmallie welcomed Scottish internationalists John Stewart and Michael Rodgers back into the side following suspension. They also had defender Ewen Stoddart back in the side whilst Kevin Toye continued to deputise for Neil MacNiven in goal. There was an explosive start to the game as Kilmallie took a 4 minute lead through Fraser Massie but Fort William’s Gordie MacKinnon equalised just 2 minutes later. Nobody predicted what would happen next as Kilmallie raced into a 4-1 lead. Michael Rodger helped Kilmallie regain the lead on 26 minutes and Liam MacDonald gave them a 3-1 half time advantage when he beat Paul MacKay on 35 minutes. Whilst everyone expected an onslaught from the home side in the second half, it was Kilmallie who incredibly went 4-1 up thanks to MacDonald’s second strike of the game just a minute into the second period. If Kilmallie had defended resolutely in the first half, they were put under even more pressure in the second period. Fort William’s Drew Ferguson made it 4-2 on 61 minutes and the home side were rewarded for pushing Duncan Rodger into attack when he beat the brilliant Toye on 85 minutes. Kilmallie held on to clinch a win that their supporters will talk about for years to come and the Marine Harvest North Division 1 side will take their place in the final on 19 June 2010.
