The Saturday Shinty Snapshot – 12 June 2010! | |
12 June 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 12 June 2010 are……….. Artemis Macaulay Cup Kingussie beat Newtonmore for the third time this season to seal a place in the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi finals. David Cheyne put Newtonmore ahead in 35 minutes but Ronald Ross leveled a minute later. This tousy affair wasn’t the classic many had hoped for but when the winner came, it was Ronald Ross who kept up his incredible scoring rate against his team’s deadly rivals to net the winner on 67 minutes. Kingussie will meet Fort William in the last four as the men from An Aird beat a severely under-strength Lovat side 6-0 at Balgate. The home side must have feared the worst when the Fort raced into a 4-0 lead after just 15 minutes through Gary Innes twice, the returning James Clark and Gordie MacKinnon. Bryan Simpson added another before the break. However some missed chances, some good saves from Lovat keeper Stuart MacDonald and some resolute defending from his back four, meant the Fort only scored once more though MacKinnon 10 minutes from the end. It was third time lucky for Bute who beat an under-strength Kyles Athletic side 1-0 at Tighnabruaich. The sides had already met twice over the last 3 weekends with Kyles winning on both occasions. However this time it was Bute’s turn to triumph as a Robert Walker goal gave them a semi final spot. Bute will meet holders Inveraray in the as they demolished Glasgow Mid Argyll 7-0 at the Winterton. Russell MacKinlay scored a hat-trick and Gary MacPherson bagged a brace. Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Holders Fort William are out of the Aberdein Sutherland Cup after they went down 3-2 to Glenurquhart at An Aird. The match finished 2-2 after extra time but it was the Drumnadrochit side won got the winner during the last half hour to seal a 3-2 victory. It also took extra time for Kingussie to conjure up an incredible 8-6 win over Lochside Rovers in Oban. The sides shared 12 goals in a cup clash last season before Kingussie won on penalties and this was another epic. Kingussie talisman Kevin Thain scored 5 times whilst Daniel MacKinnon scored a hat-trick for the home side. Lovat were 4-0 winners at the Winterton against Inveraray with Greg Matheson getting a hat-trick. The tie between Kyles Athletic and Skye Camanachd at Tighnabruaich will take place next weekend. Marine Harvest North Division 1 League leaders Kinlochshiel did their goal difference no harm when they thrashed Strathglass 8-0 at Cannich. Finlay MacRae scored 4 whilst his brothers Keith and John grabbed another 3 between them. Kilmallie move into second place following their convincing 5-0 winners over Caberfeidh at Castle Leod. Scottish internationalist John Stewart scored a second half hat-trick. Marine Harvest South Division 1 League leaders Glenorchy made it 8 wins out of 8 when they beat Kilmory 2-0 at Mart Park, Dalmally. Just 2 more wins from their remaining 6 games will secure their return to shinty’s top flight. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Glengarry went top of the league following their 1-1 draw against Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Shiel shaded a goalless first half but they had to withstand a sustained period of Garry pressure in the second half. Steven Cameron gave the visitors the lead on 74 minutes but with seconds remaining, Shiel wing centre Duncan “Ach” MacRae burst forward from midfield and sent a soaring 30 yard effort into the net off the keeper’s stick. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Donald Colville and Craig Anderson hit doubles as Glasgow Mid Argyll beat Bute 6-1 at Yoker. The match between Tayforth and Col Glen was postponed. Marine Harvest South Division 3 Aberdeen University go clear at the top of the table following a 3-1 home win over Caberfeidh.
