Old Crocks Match – Caberfeidh 2 Rest of the World 2. | |
11 June 2010 The shinty stars of yesterday (and one or two from the day before yesterday) put on an entertaining display before a large crowd in the early evening match to commemorate the opening of the new Clubhouse at Castle Leod on Saturday 5 June 2010. Caberfeidh started with first team manager Robbie Taylor in goal. They also included 71 year old Ian Bartlett and Johnny MacPherson in attack and the odd MacLennan or two. The Rest of the World side included Skye Camanachd second team manager Davie MacVicar. Willie MacRae was also asked to play but he was ruled out with an ankle injury. Scotland Assistant Head Coach and Lochcarron stalwart Kenny Ross was in goal. His father Ronnie Ross also made a just fleeting appearance as there was gathering to be done on the hill the following week! Kingussie were represented by former first team manager Jimmy Gow and the evergreen Davie Anderson. Kilmallie veterans John Morrison and Lachie Innes also took the field as did Beauly first team manager Steven “Murph” MacLean. Referee Evan MacRae enjoyed his appearance although he has promised to practice his shys before the next game. Kinlochshiel second team manger Colin Fraser played as did Murdo Fraser. The Rest of the World side took the lead thanks to a piece of vintage Davie Anderson. Cabers leveled through Ian Bartlett who belied his 71 years by finding the back of the net. Further goals from Shiel’s Colin Fraser for the Rest of the World and Johnny MacPherson for Cabers ensured that honours were even and pride remained intact although there may well have been a few stiff limbs during the week ahead. |
