23 May 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 22 May 2010 are……….. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup An extra time victory over Kilmallie means that Skye Camanachd are the only side out with shinty’s top division to make it through to Monday’s Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup quarter final draw. Skye led 2-1 thanks to goals from Iain Morrison and Somhairle MacDonald, countered by a Donald Lamont strike. However the Islanders had Jamie MacDonald sent off with 8 minutes to go and a Liam MacDonald strike on 86 minutes took the tie into extra time. Substitute Alan Palmer was the Skye hero with a fantastic goal on 104 minutes. Two other ties also went to extra time. A last minute Roddy MacDonald goal cancelled out Robert Walker’s effort 5 minutes earlier to take the tie between Kyles Athletic and Bute into extra time. There was no further scoring and Kyles eventually won through on penalties. First half goals from Eddie Tembo and James MacPherson from the penalty spot saw the tie between Glenurquhart and Lovat go to extra time before Stuart Reid put the Glen through to the last 8. Holders Fort William had to battle all the way to see off the challenge of Kinlochshiel at An Aird. Goals from Keith MacRae and a Neil Fraser double saw Shiel leading 3-1 just 3 minutes in to the second half. However Bryan Simpson, John MacDonald, Gary Innes and a Victor Smith double eventually saw the Fort through. Shiel’s John MacRae was sent off 15 minutes from the end. Badenoch rivals Kingussie and Newtonmore are comfortably through to the next round. Four goals from Ronald Ross helped Kingussie to a 6-0 win at Strathglass whilst Drew MacDonald grabbed a brace as Newtonmore beat Glenorchy 5-1. Inveraray maintain their 100% home record with a 7-3 win over Lochaber. Russell MacKinlay scored twice. An Aidan MacIntyre double helped Oban Camanachd to a 5-0 win over Glasgow Mid Argyll. Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup Daniel Stewart scored 5 times as Fort William were second round winners against Glasgow Mid Argyll 11-0. Kingussie were 8-0 winners over Lochaber. Kevin Than and Rory Borthwick scored 4 goals each. An Iain Morrison strike was enough to put Skye Camanachd through to the next round in their 1-0 win over Col Glen. It took extra time to separate Aberdeen University and Glenurquhart. Gregor MacCormack scored twice as the Glen ran out eventual 3-1- winners. Scott Mainland and Lewis Cameron each scored doubles as Lochside Rovers beat Aberdour 8-0 in Fife. John Slaughter netted twice as Inveraray beat Beauly 4-1. Kyles Athletic had a 4-3 extra time win over Strachur. An Alan MacRae goal on the hour mark clinched Lovat’s 3-0 win over Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. Strathdearn Cup Glengarry were 2-0 winners in their second round tie against Lochbroom thanks to goals from Steven Cameron and Neil MacRae. Newtonmore had a walk-over as Kilmallie were unable to raise a team. Marine Harvest North Division 1 A Sean Stewart strike on 76 minutes gave Beauly a share of the points at home to Caberfeidh. This result means that both these sides share top spot in the league with Kinlochshiel. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Kieran Gallagher got the vital goal to give Oban Celtic at 4-3 win at Kilmory. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Tayforth were unable to raise a team for their trip to Bute so the points go to the home side. Marine Harvest South Division 3 A Graeme MacMillan hat-trick helped Inverness to a 4-1 win at Lochcarron an Boleskine drew 1-1 with Caberfeidh. |
