11 April 2010 The Camanachd Association has announced that the Scottish Co-operative will sponsor the 2010 MacTavish Cup.
Scottish Co-operative’s Operational Director John McNeill said, “As the Highland and Island’s community retailer, Scottish Co-operative is committed to supporting the communities it serves, therefore, we are delighted to sponsor this major, and very popular, shinty event.”
The 2010 Scottish Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final will be held at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 19 June 2010 and will also be broadcast live on BBC ALBA.
Camanachd Association Vice President and Director of Communications, Donald Stewart, said: “The Co-operative is a good match for shinty as most of our members, players, officials and spectators grew up, as I did, shopping and chatting about shinty in the nearest Co-operative all over the Highlands and Islands. We look forward to building the MacTavish tournament in partnership with the Co-operative.
The MacTavish Cup was donated by Duncan MacTavish, a grain merchant from Stratherrick, near Inverness in January 1898. The Cup is competed for by the shinty clubs in the North and Portree were the first winners of the famous trophy in 1898. Current holders Newtonmore are also record holders with 38 victories to their name. |
