Shinty’s record goalscorer Ronald Ross has announced that he will make a sensational switch from Kingussie to deadly rivals Newtonmore for the 2011 shinty season – his final season in the game.
Speaking on the switch that will shock the shinty world to the core, Ross said, “It’s something that has been praying on my mind for a while now. My mother is from Newtonmore and I promised her that I would play my final shinty season at the Eilan. I’m not getting any younger and so next season will be my last one in the game.”
Ross also has a couple of cousins in the current Newtonmore side.
Commenting on the switch, Newtonmore first team manager Norman MacArthur said, “Ronald will be a useful addition to our squad and he will provide cover for our other forwards Danny MacRae, David Cheyne, Steven MacDonald and Glen MacKintosh.”
Ronald’s mum is said to be “delighted’ at the announcement. However his father Ian Ross, a former Kingussie player and manager, was unavailable for comment.
