Drew McNeil Appointed Scotland Senior Head Coach. | |
11 March 2010 The Camanachd Association has announced that former Fort William first team manager Drew MacNeil has been named Scotland Senior Head Coach.
McNeil was Assistant Head Coach to previous manager Fraser MacKenzie and he has the distinction of leading Fort William to victory in the last 3 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Finals.
He is a shinty enthusiast who will take up his new role with immediate effect.
The 2010 shinty / hurling international against Ireland will take place at Croke Park, Dublin on 30 October 2010.
Both the Camanachd Association and the GAA are in talks about having a return fixture just 2 weeks later. This would be the first time that the series was decided over 2 legs and the proposed date for a return match at the Bught Park, Inverness is on 13 November 2010.
McNeil is keen to recruit the remainder of the backroom team from 2009 and the Camanachd Association has already advertised for the post of Scotland Senior Assistant Head Coach – McNeil’s former role.
The 2009 Senior Scotland backroom team included Assistant Head Coaches Charles Young and Kenny Ross, Trainer Neil Bowman and Doctor Helen Stewart with further assistance provided by Sports Psychologist Donald MacNaughton.
McNeil has stated his wish to make his squad selection process “inclusive and public.” |
