Memory Lane - Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup. | |
18 February 2010 The Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup, played in memory of Skye Camanachd player Thomas Ferguson, saw the introduction of a best Skye player award in 1978.
However the challenge match was enhanced in 1978 when Glasgow Mid Argyll presented a Shield to Skye Camanachd for the best Skye player, nominated by the opposing team.
The first Skye Camanachd player to receive this honour was goalkeeper Iain “Dowel” MacLeod following the Glasgow side’s 5-1 victory.
Had it not been for a magnificent performance in goal from MacLeod, the winning margin would have been all the greater.
MacLeod’s performance was all the more remarkable as he had just returned to the side following a serious foot injury. |
