2010 Balliemore Cup Preview. | |
01 February 2010 The 2009 Balliemore Cup finalists Strathglass and Kinlochshiel meet in the first round of the 2010 Balliemore Cup on 10 April 2010.
Reigning champions Strathglass open the defence of the Balliemore Cup with a trip to Kirkton to face Kinlochshiel. This will give beaten finalists Shiel an immediate opportunity for revenge. Indeed Shiel emerged 6-0 winners when the sides met at the same venue in October 2009.
There are 3 North v South clashes in the first round but Beauly are the only North side to enjoy home advantage when Oban Celtic visit Braeview Park.
Skye Camanachd will make the long trip south to face a Kilmory side who came within a whisker of winning promotion in 2009 from the Marine Harvest South Division 1 to the Scottish Hydro National Premier Division.
Caberfeidh have won the Balliemore Cup a record 5 times but the 2010 draw has not been kind to them. Cabers will head for Canal Parks to play Kilmallie.
However Robbie Taylor’s side will be encouraged by the fact the won 3-2 at the same venue in July 2009.
Inverness have also been given a tricky tie as they have been drawn to face recently relegated Lochaber at Spean Bridge.
Lochcarron will make the trip south to face Ballachulish at Jubilee Park.
Taynuilt and Glenorchy received byes into the next round.
The draw for the quarter finals all have the potential to be North v South matches.
The winner of the Kilmory / Skye Camanachd tie will host 2009 Marine Harvest South Division 2 champions Taynuilt.
The winner of the tie between Kilmallie and Caberfeidh will travel to Dalmally to play Glenorchy.
