Skye Camanachd and their anonymous benefactor have reviewed year 2 of the club’s 10 year plan.
Skye Camanachd received a £50,000 interest free loan from a benefactor 2 years ago. This allowed the club to make a large reduction to their bank loan taken out at the time when the clubhouse was built in 1997/8. This in turn meant the club has enjoyed reduced loan repayments over the last 2 years.
The new income has allowed Skye Camanachd to invest additional funds in youth development at the club.
The level to which Skye Camanachd will have to repay this loan is dependent on the club achieving a set of agreed objectives over a 10 year period. This is measured against one tenth (£5,000) of the loan each year.
The objectives are reviewed annually by both parties and Skye Camanachd is delighted that it has been agreed that overall year 2 objectives have been met so the second £5,000 of the interest free loan is not repayable.
This is a considerable boost to Skye Camanachd who are extremely grateful for this investment and all concerned are now focusing attention on the objectives for year 3.
The year 2 aims and outcomes are set out in the table below.

First Team to finish in the top 3 in the Marine Harvest North Division 1 and reach a cup semi final.

First team finished in 3rd place in Marine Harvest North Division 1.

League Target met but Cup target not met this season
The first team started the season with new manager Angie Murchison at the helm. Although he was replaced by Aonghas MacDonald midway through the season, this did not affect team performances. The team led Marine Harvest North Division 1 for most of the season although they had the advantage of playing more matches at an early stage. There was consistency in team selection from the 2008 side and this was also an advantage. It was an extremely competitive league with only 2 points eventually separating the top 3 sides at the end of the season. The team did not compete as well in the cup competitions - going out of all 3 competitions in the first round. However the 2008 Balliemore Cup success was ahead of target. The Skye Camanachd first team was invited to take part at the inaugural Marine Harvest Clash of the Ash Shinty Festival as Balliemore Cup winners. Skye Camanachd won the Plate competition, beating Lochside Rovers and the Fort William second team.

Second Team to finish in the top 3 in the Marine Harvest North Division 2 and reach a cup semi final.
Second team finished in 7th place in Marine Harvest North Division 2.
Target not met
The second team finished in 7th place in Marine Harvest North Division 2. Given that the first team is a young side which had a couple of returning players; it was more difficult for any second team players to make a first team break-through during the season. We continue to have a young, developing second team and given that their primary function is to provide young players ready to meet the challenge of first team shinty, it may be that final league position is not the best measure of success. This point requires more thought and discussion. Ian Grant, Scott MacLeod, and Paul MacKinnon became more established in the side during the season. A total of 15 players aged U17 played in the second team during the season.
U17 team to reach the Area Finals.
2009 London Shield winners.
Target met
The U17 side was unlucky to go out of the MacTavish Juvenile Cup following a 3-2 defeat to eventual winners Lochaber. The team did not let this disappointment affect them as they went on to win the London Shield beating Lovat, Kingussie, Caberfeidh, Lochaber and Glenurquhart along the way. The team played 7 matches which is a great improvement on previous seasons and this is our first 12 a side success at this level for several seasons.
U14 Team to continue with 2 teams at this level and win Area competition.
Both teams participated in the Leagues in 2008. North Division 1 winners in 2008 and 2009.
Target met
The Skye Camanachd A team was top of the 2008 North Division 1 at the time of the last annual report. Skye went on to win this league and they retained the league trophy in 2009. The Skye A U14 side was also National MacMaster Cup runners up – the first time they had reached the final for several years. The Skye B U14 side was Development Cup runners up and finished in second place in North Division 3. The B team ensures there are plenty opportunities for all players who come through the Primary School network. This is particularly important as a rich vein of talent continues to be produced at Primary School level. Portree Primary School is unbeaten over the last 2 seasons and they retained the MacKay Cup amongst other successes. North Skye also had a successful season finishing runners up in the P 5 First Shinty P5.
