11 January 2010 Season 1986 / 87 – The Cups Camanachd Cup Saturday 14 March 1987 – Camanachd Cup Second Round - Kingussie 9 Skye Camanachd 1 Skye Camanachd returned to the scene of their league success on the opening day of the shinty season when they beat Kingussie 6-5 at the Dell. However this was to be no triumphant return for the Islanders as the North Division 1 champions gained revenge in emphatic style with a 9-1 win. Skye were in reasonable form going into this tie but they were no match for the eventual 1987 Camanachd Cup winners on the day. Kingussie were in scintillating form from the throw up and Kevin Thain gave them the lead after just 4 minutes. Thain went on to complete a first half hat-trick and Kingussie lead 4-0 at the interval with Stevie Borthwick getting the other. Skye player / manager Calum Murchison was forced off at half time with a hand injury and he watched the rest of the game from the touchline. Murchison replaced Skye keeper Ian “Dowel” MacLeod with Peter Murchison midway through the second half but it made no difference and it has to be said that neither keeper received much protection from the players in front of them. Kingussie continued to play at their devastating best and further strikes from Gary Dallas and doubles from both Davie Anderson and Ally Dallas gave them 9 goals. Ally “Stenscholl” MacDonald scored what was the merest of consolation goals in what was a bitterly disappointing day for Skye. Kingussie went on to beat bitter rivals Newtonmore 4-3 in a thrilling Final at |
