09 January 2010 Season 1986 / 87 – The Cups The Sutherland Cup Saturday 7 March 1987 – Sutherland Cup Third Round – Skye Camanachd 10 Kincraig 1. Skye Camanachd made it into the Sutherland Cup semi finals with a resounding win over Kincraig at the King George V Playing Field, Portree. This game was, as the scoreline suggests, very much a one sided affair although it was the visitors who took the lead after only 12 minutes when Skye keeper Calum “Columbo” Nicolson made a hash of dealing with an Ivor Beaton shot and ended up turning the ball into his own net. Skye levelled 10 minutes later when a rasping 25 yard drive from Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Kyleakin) flew into the back of the net. Skye never looked back and their centre line of Calum “Ginger” MacDonald, Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Kyleakin) and John Angus Gillies were in total command. Skye went ahead on 31 minutes when John “Bodach” MacKenzie volleyed a John MacRae free hit into the net. MacKenzie scored his second goal a couple of minutes later when he smashed an Ally MacInnes cross from the right past keeper MacKenzie – in off his left hand post. A glorious turn and shot from John MacRae made it 4-1 as he gave the Kincraig keeper no chance. John “Bodach” MacKenzie completed his hat-trick with Ally MacInnes – who else - the supplier once again. Just a minute before the break, provider MacInnes turned scorer as he tucked the ball past MacKenzie to give Skye a 6-1 interval lead. John “Bodach” MacKenzie scored his fourth when he brought down a cross from the right to score. Skye’s Angie Murchison was withdrawn with a leg knock and was replaced by Ronnie Reid. Reid didn’t take long to make an impact and he turned a delightful John MacRae through ball into the net to make it 8-1. Midway through the second half John “Bodach” MacKenzie scored his fifth to complete an impressive personal display. There’s no doubt that Skye eased up for the remainder of the game and it wasn’t until the closing minutes that Ronnie Reid found the net to complete a 10-1 rout. Skye would face a tougher test in the semi final where they were drawn against Glenurquhart. |
