25 December 2009 Season 1986 / 87 The Cups. Saturday 8 November 1986 – MacTavish Cup Second Round – Glengarry 0 Skye Camanachd 1 This cup tie at Invergarry was played in dreadful conditions as the winter weather really began to bite. The conditions were certainly not conducive to good shinty and although Skye enjoyed the bulk of the possession and most of the chances, they were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. Peter Gordon came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when his blistering drive was touched over the bar by the ‘Garry keeper. Glengarry came more into the game in the second period and it took a brilliant Ian “Dowel” MacLeod save in the Skye goal just 5 minutes from the end to prevent a cup shock taking place. Just when it looked as if the 90 minutes would end goalless, Willie MacKinnon reacted best in a goal mouth scramble to knock the ball over the line and put the delighted Islanders into the MacTavish Cup semi final where they would meet Newtonmore. |
