Memory Lane – Season 1986 / 87 – Part 26. | |
14 December 2009 Saturday 4 April 1987 - North Division 3 – Kilmallie 1 Skye Camanachd 0 With the first team going down 5-0 to Kingussie, the title chasing second team completed a miserable day when they lost 1-0 to Kilmallie. This defeat meant that Skye had little chance of finishing top but it was a depleted side which left Portree on the Saturday morning. John Angus Gillie, Calum “Ginger” MacDonald, Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Portree), Ronnie Reid and Donald “Donjee” MacLeod were all unavailable. Indeed manager Archie MacDonald was so short of players that Angie Murchison and Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Kyleakin) both played when they were clearly carrying injuries. Skye played against the wind in the first half and keeper Calum “ Kilmallie also hit the bar during this period as Skye battled to reach the break on even terms. Skye suffered a blow just before half time when speeding wing forward Ally MacInnes had to be replaced following a blow to the eye. He was replaced by schoolboy Bruce MacGregor. Skye played with the wind in the second period and although they had more possession, they still spent most of the game in their own half. Just when it looked as if Skye could hold out for a point which would keep them in the title race, Kilmallie’s John MacAskill sent a 20 yard shot past the unsighted Nicolson for what was to prove to be the only goal of the game. Skye fought hard to level the match but they were unable to get through a stuffy Kilmallie defence. |
