13 December 2009 Several management changes have already been confirmed for Scottish Hydro Premier Division sides ahead of the 2010 season. Three of the 2009 four top placed sides will have new management teams in place for the start of the 2010 season with Newtonmore still to confirm their position. The hugely successful Jimmy Gow steps down as Kingussie first team manager. The 2008 Marine Harvest Premier Division Manager of the Year will be replaced by Kingussie legend Stevie Borthwick and he will have the challenge of introducing younger players into the first team squad whilst still retaining the King’s very high standards. Bortwick will be assisted by Russell Jones. Newtonmore have yet to announce their 2010 first team manager but it would be a major surprise if Norman MacArthur didn’t get the opportunity to build on a season where he won the MacTavish Cup and took the league season to the very last game of the season. ‘More hold their AGM on Friday 15 January 2010. Fort William have had the most high profile management change as their club committee decided to replace 3 time Camanachd Cup winner Drew McNeill with former co-manager Peter MacIntyre. Club stalwart Willie MacDonald will be assistant manager. MacDonald has played with the second team in recent seasons but has knowledge of the club’s rich youth talent. There have also been changes at Glenurquhart as the successful pairing of Billy MacLean and Dave Menzies will be taking a break from management at the Drumnadrochit side. They have been replaced by the Glenurquhart Chairman and former player Jim Barr who has yet to appoint his assistant manager. Kyles Athletic finished fifth under Norman MacDonald and the Tighnabruaich side has yet to confirm their first team manger for the 2010 shinty season. Oban Camanachd have just finished their season under the guidance of Nigel Evans and they are another side who have yet to confirm their manager for next season. Inveraray have also made a change as Davie MacPherson stands down after a successful reign. He is replaced by John Smylie. Lovat have bounced back into the Premier Division after jut one season in North Division 1 and James Gallagher & John MacRitchie will continue as co-managers in 2010. Finally Glasgow Mid Argyll won promotion from South Division 1 under the guidance of George Hay and he will stay in charge for the 2010 shinty season in the top flight. |
