Skye Camanachd had not played since their goalless draw with Glenurquhart on Saturday 22 November 1986 – a period of 9 weeks without a game. The winter weather had deemed many pitches unplayable and the other title challengers had only managed to play 2 or 3 games more than the Islanders. Skye were still well placed to make a bid for the title in the second half of the season. However it remained to be seen how Skye would react following such a long period without a competitive match.
