Memory Lane – Season 1986 / 87 – Part 10. | |
03 December 2009 Skye Camanachd were given a shinty lesson after a terrific display from Newtonmore in their North Division 1 match at the Eilan. ‘More went into the match at full strength and they were clearly hurting from their Badenoch defeat to Kingussie in the previous weekend. The Skye defence found the Fraser brothers – George and John – in irresistible form and young defenders Willie “Winkie” MacKenzie and Ally “Stenscholl” MacDonald were given a torrid afternoon. George Fraser actually scored a hat-trick in each half whilst Alan MacKintosh, John Fraser and Ken MacKintosh scored the others. Despite the heavy defeat, Skye keeper Ian “Dowel” MacLeod made some great saves and but for his intervention, the winning margin could have been greater. Willie MacRae in the Skye centre line also put in a battling performance against the odds. This result meant that Kingussie and It was a local derby against Kinlochshiel next for Skye. |
