Portree High School and Plockton High School Girls Meet For Cuach Camanachd Sgàthaich. | |
29 November 2009 The first ever Cuach Camanachd Sgàthaich between Portree High School Girls and Plockton High School Girls will take place on Friday 4 December 2009 at the The Portree girls, coached by Gaelic teacher Eoghan Stewart, have made rapid improvements over the last two and a half years and following a second place finish in the first round of this year’s WCA Schools League, they will be hoping to win against local rivals Plockton. The Plockton High Schools Girls attended the recent Donella Crawford competition in Ardnamurchan which the Skye team could not attend due to a visit by HMIe. Plockton have had the edge over Portree when the sides have met in the past so this should be an intriguing game. The Cup is named after the legendary warrior queen Sgàthach who was reputed to live in Skye and to have taught Cù Chullain, the arts of war. Perhaps some of the shinty boys could learn a few things from watching their female counterparts do battle! It is hoped the trophy will go on to be as prestigious and as successful as the Sorley MacLean Trophy has become over the years between the two schools. Portree are presently holders of the Sorley MacLean and hope to make it a double. The game throws up at 1.30pm and will be played 30 minutes each way. |
