11 November 2009 The Camanachd Association in conjunction with the Referees Association has put together an attractive package of remuneration, training and support to help encourage more referees to the sport. Shinty referees receive a £30 Match Fee plus 40p per mile expenses for refereeing any senior games. They are also provided with Referee Kit and equipment and they have the opportunity to officiate at major games. There are also annual awards for each grade of referee and goal judge. Referees have the opportunity to progress through the grades and officiate at Cup Finals/ Inter District/ National games
Referees are assessed on a series of criteria;
Area Match Assessors play and important role and they are recruited from experienced positive thinking members of the shinty community. Match Assessors are regarded by the Camanachd Association as the sports eyes and ears at games to help encourage and improve, where appropriate, the standards of performance of Players, Club Officials, match Officials & Supporters. The Camanachd Association encourages officials to deliver the highest standards of officiating at all times and is committed to providing an appropriate training structure for all levels including; · A 4 hour Foundation Course designed to assist any adult (16 years and over) to officiate at youth and reserve team level. Successful candidates will be included in the Grade 3 Referee Data Base · A 6 hour Level 1 certificate course designed to assist Foundation Level (Grade 3) referees progress to Grade 2 and officiate at 1st Team level · A 3 hour Development Workshops designed to assist Grade 2 Referees to progress to Grade 1 and all referees to develop their knowledge and consistence of interpretation
