Glenurquhart U17 2 Skye Camanachd U17 1. | |
13 September 2009 The Skye Camanachd U17 went down 2-1 at Drumnadrochit against Glenurquhart U17 in a their London Shield match on Friday 11 September 2009. Skye Camanachd youth coach Davie MacVicar was without Shaun Hedley and Chris MacLennan but otherwise has a full squad to choose from. The Glen were minus Calum Smith and Mathew Brady. Both sides were unbeaten in this year’s competition and were both already through to the semi final stage. However this encounter was to settle who topped the section ahead of the semi finals against the top 2 in the South section. Skye started brightly and after only 2 minutes, the forwards combined well for John Gillies to send a rasping shot which came back of Ryan Brady’s right hand post. Skye took the lead after 17 minutes when a prefect diagonal ball from Jordan Murchison split the Glenurquhart defence and John Gillies smashed the ball into the net. Neil John Campbell blocked a goal bound effort from the home side on the half hour mark and Danny Morrison and John Gillies both went close at the other end. Glenurquhart introduced Drew MacLennan at buckshee back at the second half and they pushed full centre Ewen Brady further forward. The Glen leveled 13 minutes into the second period when a great cross from the left found Kelvin MacKenzie in space and he blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Skye substitute Ally MacDonald had the ball in the net 5 minutes later but the goal was ruled out for offside. Glenurquhart’s winner came 5 minutes from the end when a 35 yard shot from Ewen Brady bounced wickedly in front of Skye keeper Scott MacLeod and ended up in the net. After a promising first half, Skye faded in the second period and didn’t do enough to win the game. Ewen Menzies and Ewen Brady were prominent for the home side.
