It’s Cup Finals day in Women’s Shinty at Spean Bridge on Saturday 12 September 2009.
The Valerie Fraser Camanachd Cup Final is a re-run of last year’s clash, in which Tir Conaill Harps from Glasgow picked up their first silverware with a 2-1 victory against Glengarry. A similarly close encounter is expected this time – the sides are still battling for the National Division One title and drew 2-2 when they met in the league a fortnight ago. The match has a 2.30pm throw-up at Lochaber Camanachd’s ground, and the trophy will be presented after the game by competition sponsor Peter Gow from Inverness.
Earlier in the day, Badenoch & Strathspey will be aiming to retain the Caledonian Canal Division Two Challenge Cup when they face a Cowal & Bute side making their first cup final appearance.
The Badenoch girls have swept all before them since forming last year, but Cowal & Bute will be something of an unknown quantity as the teams have never met before. The match starts at 1pm and the cup, now into its third year, will be handed over to the winners by Russell Thomson on behalf of sponsors British Waterways Scotland.
Admission for the day is £3, under-16s £1 and under-12s free.
