30 August 2009 Kyles Athletic will play The original Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi final between Kingussie and Kyles Athletic was abandoned because of deteriorating weather conditions a couple of weeks ago at Ballachulish after 65 minutes with Kingussie leading 4-1. This gave Kyles a second chance which they didn’t waste and it was a more determined Kyles’ side who took the field this time with Tom White giving them a 14 minute lead. Kevin Thain, restored to the Kings side after missing last weekends MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup defeat to Inveraray with injury, scored after 20 minutes to ensure the sides went into the break all square. Ronald Ross, the scorer of all 4 of his side’s goals in the abandoned game, gave the Kings the lead on the hour mark but the tie turned on its head in the final 10 minutes. First Duncan Kerr leveled the contest on 80 minutes and he then dramatically gave Kyles the lead just 3 minutes from full time. However Kingussie pressed until the end and Kevin Thain scored his second goal right on full time to take the game into extra time. It was Duncan Kerr who became the toast of Tigh na Bruach when he completed his hat-trick just 6 minutes from the end. Referee Charles Young sent off Kingussie’s John Hutchison for in the dying minutes for a rash challenge, awarding a penalty to Kyles in the process. The penalty was missed but it mattered little and it’s Kyles Athletic who are through to their first Scottish final since 2000. With Kingussie in cup action, Newtonmore extended their lead over their Badenoch rivals at the top of the Scottish Hydro Premier Division with a 5-1 win over Lochaber at the Eilan. However they had to work for the points as the first half finished goalless. David Cheyne broke the deadlock 5 minutes into the second half and Glen MacKintosh added a second on 65 minutes. Daniel MacRae made it 3-0 on 71 minutes and Cheyne added his second 2 minutes later. Sean Nicolson pulled a goal back for Lochaber on 75 minutes but Evan Menzies made the final score 5-1 with a 79 minute strike and he ensured that all 4 Newtonmore forwards found the net. More are 4 points ahead of third place Kingussie but the Kings have 2 games in hand. Glenurquhart moved into second place with a 4-2 win over Oban Camanachd at Drumnadrochit. Aiden MacIntyre gave the visitors the lead on 26 minutes but Billy Urquhart made the half time score 1-1 with a 38 minute strike. Urquhart notched his and Glenurquhart’s second a minute after the break and Lewis MacLennan made it 3-1 on 65 minutes. Calum Miller made it 4-1 on 70 minutes and although Scott MacMillan pulled a goal back 5 minutes later, the Glen held on to clinch the points. The shock of the day was at Winterton where MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup winners Inveraray suffered a cup hangover and went down 4-3 to Glenorchy. A Garry MacPherson double couldn’t inspire Inveraray as they went down to the already relegated Dalmally side. Therefore Inveraray, with 2 major cup wins behind them this season, dropped 2 vital points and remain third bottom – just 2 points above the relegation positions. Inveraray are now only 2 points ahead of second bottom Bute but the The match between Caberfeidh had the chance to top Marine Harvest Strathglass raced into a 2-0 first half lead against Lovat at Balgate. Player / manager Garry Reid opened the scoring after 22 minutes and Scotland U21 training squad player Michael Stokes added a second a minute later. Fraser Gallagher scored for the third consecutive game on 50 minutes and Raymond Rennie ensured a share of the points with a goal for the home side 10 minutes from the end. Stuart Gregory gave Glengarry the lead after just 2 minutes but Ross Fraser leveled 4 minutes later. Gregory completed a first half hat-trick with goals on 10 minutes and 24 minutes. A Steven Cameron goal a minute from the break made the half time score 4-1 to the home side. Mathew Clarke made it 5-1 on 64 minutes and Stuart Gregory scored his fourth on 68 minutes to give Garry a 7-1 win. The matches between In Marine Harvest South Division 2, Glasgow Mid Argyll and bottom club Ballachulish drew 4-4 at Yoker. Third place Aberdour had a convincing 6-1 win over second bottom Glenorchy. The match between fifth place Col Glen and sixth place Only one match went ahead in Marine Harvest North Division 3 as Strathglass visited the Bught to play Kincraig were unable to raise a team to travel to Ullapool to play Lochbroom so the home club were awarded the points.
