10 August 2009 The 2009 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals take place on Saturday 15 August 2009. The Road to the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals for Kyles Athletic, Kingussie, Bute and 2008 runners up Kingussie won through against a resilient Caberfeidh side at the Dell. Kingussie talisman Ronald Ross was obviously keen to make up for the disappointment of last year’s final as he stacked up 4 goals. He gave Kings the lead after 10 minutes and scored his second after half an hour. Ross went on to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot a couple of minutes before the break. David Mellis pulled a goal back for Cabers 5 minutes after the interval but veteran forward Kevin Thain restored Kingussie’s 3 goal advantage on the hour mark. Ross scored his fourth and Kingussie’s fifth 10 minutes later to complete a 5-1 victory and win his side a quarter final tie at home to Lovat. Kyles Athletic's tie with Newtonmore at Tigh na Bruach was abandoned with the home side leading by a single goal. Duncan Kerr gave the home side the lead after just 2 minutes only for David Cheyne to level the tie 3 minutes later. He completed his hat-trick after 40 minutes but to Lovat’s credit, John White pulled a goal back to make the interval score 6-1. Ten minutes into the second half, Ross scored his fourth goal and his fifth arrived 5 minutes later. Ross scored his sixth after 82 minutes to make the score 9-1 and this was the second week in a row that the game’s leading marksman scored 6 goals. Kevin Thain scored his second a minute later to take last year’s finalists into double figures. On 20 June 2009, Kyles Athletic defied their lowly league position when they beat Oban Camanachd 3-0 at Mossfield win through to the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals. Oban Camanachd already had a 3-1 win over Kyles when the sides met at Mossfield on league duty but this win secured a semi final spot against last year's beaten finalists Kingussie. Fraser MacDonald hit a vital strike for the visitors a minute before the break and a double from David Martin on 55 minutes and another 10 minutes later gave Kyles a convincing win. The first semi final between Bute and Fort William throws up at 1.30pm and will be refereed by 2009 Sutherland Cup Final referee Billy Wotherspoon.
The second semi final between Kingussie and Kyles Athletic throws up at 4pm. This tie will be refereed by 2008 Camanachd Cup Final referee Colin MacDonald.
