Beauly 2 Skye Camanachd 1. | |
02 August 2009 Skye Camanachd’s title hopes suffered a blow when they lost 2-1 to Beauly in Marine Harvest North Division 1 at
Aonghas MacDonald was forced to make changes to his squad with Iain Nicolson working and Allan MacLeod and Norman MacLeod unavailable. David Grant returned to second team duty whilst Somhairle MacDonald was a continued absentee.
However AB Connor, Alan Palmer and Allan MacKinnon all returned to the squad in what was a vital clash for both sides. Skye fell behind after 8 minutes when David MacLean smashed a low, hard shot past Gannon at his right post. Skye lost AB Connor mid-way through the first half with a leg injury. Allan MacKinnon came on in his place with Shockie MacLennan dropping back into Connor’s defensive berth. The home side doubled their lead after 70 minutes through Barrie MacDonald with a good strike which was very similar to their opener. Skye pushed Gilleasbuig MacDonald into the forward line and Donnie Campbell replaced Alan Palmer as the league leaders went for broke. They managed to pull a goal back 8 minutes from the end when Gilleasbuig MacDonald found space to fire the ball into the net. However the Islanders couldn’t find the second goal that would have salvaged a point. In the end it was disappointment for Skye as Kilmallie, Caberfeidh and of course Beauly gained 2 points on them following their weekend wins. Skye Camanachd from; Jamie Gannon, Steven Morrison, AB Connor, (Allan MacKinnon), John Moir, Jamie MacDonald, Shockie MacLennan, Gilleasbuig MacDonald, Kerr Gibb, Kenny Campbell (captain), Alan Palmer, (Donnie Campbell), Ally MacLennan, Dougie Rankin sub Danny Morrison (not used).
