The Camanachd Association & the GAA have issued a joint press release to confirm this year’s Shinty / Hurling International and outline how they hope to develop the event further.

Both parties met last weekend in Glasgow to discuss the future of the International Shinty / Hurling match and how they could better use the annual event to strengthen the cultural exchange between Scotland and Ireland.

It is planned to;

·         raise the profile of the cross-code game

·         securing funding

·         make the play more attractive and free-flowing

·         add to the events cultural dimension.  

This year’s matches are scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2009 at the Bught Park, Inverness and there will be matches at Under 21, Ladies and Senior levels. A University Hurling match and a ceilidh, to include Gaelic music and dance from both countries, will be added to broaden the scope of the event.

The meeting on 31 October 2009 at Bught Park, Inverness is part of the Year of Homecoming celebrations and the GAA is currently celebrating its 125th year.

The Senior International will be broadcast live on BBC2 Scotland and will also be broadcast live on Radio Scotland and across the Internet with commentary in both English and Gaelic.
