| 24 July 2009 The “guess the time” winner has been announced following Skye Camanachd player Donnie Campbell’s 95 mile run of the West Highland Way came to a halt just after 10am on Friday 10 July 2009 due to illness. He had completed 53 miles of the run in a time of 14 hours 5 minutes and 22 seconds before having to retire through illness. His time for the whole course was calculated using his average speed in order to select the sponsorship competition winner. Taking Donnie Campbell’s average speed, his time to complete the 95 miles of the The competition winner was Alan Palmer who’s guess of 25 hours and 20 minutes secured him the prize fund of £140. Donnie ran the West Highland Way to assist with the costs of the Cuairt gu California project which will see a squad of 16 representatives of Skye Camanachd visit our shinty cousins at the Northern California Camanachd Club in the San Francisco Bay Area. The team will be taking part at the World's Largest Highland Games as well as promoting Skye as a Tourism and Business destination whilst also enjoying the Californian sunshine. A big thank you to all who sponsored or donated towards the event Donnie’s endeavours also secured 2 size able donations.
