The Shinty World Pays Its Respects. | |
22 July 2009 The shinty world will pay its respects this weekend by calling off 2 fixtures on Saturday 25 July 2009 in the backdrop of some tragic circumstances. The Marine Harvest North Division 1 match between Caberfeidh and Strathglass at Castle Leod has been called off following the death of 21 year old SCOTS player Scott Bain. Scott died following a road accident near Kingussie just a day after watching his brother Lee Bain score the opening goal for Strathglass in the Balliemore Cup win over Kinlochshiel in Rothesay on Saturday 18 July 2009. Scott served with the 4th Battalion the Regiment of Scotland and had served duty in Scott trained at Cannich with his former Strathglass team-mates during the week leading up to the Balliemore Cup Final and had in the past trained with Kingussie. He was an important member of the SCOTS shinty team who have played so well in recent cup ties. The Sutherland Cup Final on 1 August 2009 has also been switched from Cannich to Bught Park Inverness as a mark of respect. The Marine Harvest North Division 3 match between Ardnamurchan and the Strathglass second has also been called off as a mark of respect following Scott’s death. The Ardnamurchan area has also had its own tragedy this week following the death of 3 fishermen after the fishing boat The Aquila sunk off Ardnamurchan point. Skye Camanachd's Marine Harvest North Division 2 match against Kilmallie at Canal Parks has also been called off as the Skye Camanachd players and officials will be attending Margaret Ross' funeral.
