Portree Primary School’s started their mini shinty tour with a draw against Kingussie at the Dell on Thursday 16 July 2009.

The Kingussie Primary School was boosted by the inclusion of a 3 players from Newtonmore Primary School and both sides played the opening minutes in heavy rain which thankfully ended midway through the first half.

Portree took the lead with a 10 minute goal from Alex MacDonald. Will Cowie doubled their lead on 29 minutes and Portree went into the break with a 2 goal cushion.

Portree held on to their lead until midway through the second half when Robert Mahon leveled. The Kings youngsters fought until the end do and with almost the last hit of the game, Fachie Grant leveled the match and earned his side a draw.

Best for Portree were Alex MacDonald who put in an impressive performance against the older Savio Genini, and Will Cowie and Kyle Pirie.

Portree will now play against a Beauly / Lovat select on Friday 17 July 2009. This game will form part of the Beauly Gala weekend and will be played for a new trophy which Beauly hope will become an annual fixture.
