15 July 2009 The Balliemore Cup Final takes centre stage on Saturday 18 July 2009. However there are a couple of matches on Friday 17 July 2009. Inveraray host Skye Camanachd travel to Battery Park to play Lochcarron in Marine Harvest North Division 1. Skye sit top of the table whilst Lochcarron are bottom. However Lochcarron are always difficult opposition in this west coast derby and indeed they put Skye out of the Balliemore Cup when the sides met at the same venue earlier in the season. Lochcarron are boosted by Michael Cooper’s return but Daniel MacRae has a hamstring injury. Skye are likely to be without striker Alan Palmer. This match also has a 7pm throw up. The 2009 Balliemore Cup Final sees Kinlochshiel and Strathglass meet in Scottish Hydro Premier League leaders Kingussie host Oban Camanachd at the Dell. Only a point separates the sides and both are serious league contenders. Oban Camanachd will be without the suspended Grant MacPherson and David MacInnes. Both sides will be desperate to take something from this game. Second place Newtonmore have a some what easier task at home to bottom club Glenorchy. ‘More had a 5-0 win at Dalmally earlier in the season and any slip up here could have a crucial effect on their title hopes. Glenorchy will be without the suspended Andrew Pearson. Seventh place Lochaber travel to Tigh na Bruach to play sixth place Kyles Athletic. Lochaber will still be without the suspended Ben Delaney, Hughie Innes and Martin Johnston. This match has a 1pm throw up. The match of the day in Marine Harvest North Division 1 is between Kilmallie and Caberfeidh at Canal Parks. Both clubs share second place with Strathglass and the game is crucial to both sides’ title aspirations. The derby between Beauly and Lovat at Brae View Park has been called off because of a wedding in the Beauly area. Third place Glasgow Mid Argyll have the chance to narrow the gap on second place Kilmory when they host bottom club Tayforth at Yoker in Marine Harvest South Division 1. However Mid Argyll should be careful as Tayforth have won both their last 2 league outings. Inveraray and Ballachulish are level on points and the sides meet at Winterton. In Marine Harvest North Division 2, second place Second place Kingussie travel to Portree to play Skye Camanachd. The Kings won the corresponding fixture earlier in the season. Fifth place Lovat travel to Castle Leod to play second bottom Caberfeidh. Lovat won the earlier meeting between the sides 8-0 and, with Martin Anderson in fine form, the Sutherland Cup finalists will start as favourites again. Newtonmore and Glengarry meet at the Eilan. Glengarry came out on top when the sides met earlier in the season. This match also has a 12 noon throw up. In Marine Harvest South Division 2, Aberdour host Glasgow Mid Argyll. Glenorchy and Ballachulish meet at Dalmally. Second place Lochbroom have the chance to narrow There is a derby match at Farr where Boleskine host Third place Beauly travel to play Kincraig and a win will keep them in touch with the leaders. Lewis Camanachd and Uist Camanachd meet for the Hebridean Celtic Festival Challenge Cup. There will be a solemn nature to the tie following the accidental death last week of Lewis player Craig Morrison. This match throws up at 2pm. |
